A message from our President

The West End Traders Association Inc was first formed by a group of business owners in 1980-1981. The committee and sub committees have always given their valuable time to run the association totally free to all the members.
As every business owner knows, this is not an easy task to give up your free time to help promote West End to benefit all business owners in the West End (Kurilpa) area.

The West End Traders Association Inc has, in the past, suffered from a lack of interest by some business owners. The association was formed to promote all types of traders in the West End. Area. We aim to work together with other community groups on various projects. The West End Street Festival, for example, was our very first working together with West End Community House, Street Arts, Brisbane City Council, Brisbane Lions and local business and community groups which was a terrific response from locals and visitors.

The very first Festival was held on a Thursday Night and was attended by 3000 plus Patrons. This was a true family Street Festival thanks to all Groups in the West End Area.

The West End Traders Association Inc., over the last 26 years, has achieved a strong working relationship with Brisbane City Council, State Government, Local Police, West End Community House, West End Community Association, Elders of the Local Indigenous Groups, South Bank Corporation, South Brisbane Business Association W oolloongabba Business Association, Brisbane Marketing, Our Brisbane, Developers and Business from outside the West End Precinct.
Since I was elected president of W.E.T.A. Inc about 15 years ago, I have seen a lot of changes in West End.

Being born in west end I have seen even more changes, but as a group we can have a strong voice in trying to keep the character of West End Alive and strong, and show the Greater Brisbane Community what West End can offer.
I give total praise to all the committees and volunteers that I have worked with in the past and most of all the current committee and Marketing Committee for all the hard work putting W.E.T.A. Inc on the Internet with its own Website to let all know what’s happening in WEST END.
